Facioplasty

Facioplasty to restore the tissues' volume

Facioplasty or facial volumisation consists in injecting fillers, usually hyaluronic acid, to restore tissues to their original position and any lost volume. This attenuates the folds, wrinkles or creases and redefines the facial contour, providing the face with a more rested, relaxed and fresh appearance.

Ageing is a complex process in which there is bone, muscle, ligament and fat compartment atrophy accompanied by the latter’s subsequent sliding, as well as of the skin, leading to the dreaded flaccidity. This results in accentuated nasolabial folds and marionette lines and a loss of facial oval definition.

Facioplasty is a facial beautification treatment that goes beyond filling folds or wrinkles. It is based on studying and understanding how and why the defect we want to correct arises. This enables us to treat the defect from an anatomical perspective and obtain a natural and balanced outcome. We will design a treatment plan, and depending on the results we want to obtain, the complete treatment can take three or six months or even one year.

Facioplasty consists in beautifying the face in three phases: foundations, contours and refinements. It is similar to building a house.

The middle third is responsible for maintaining the structure of the face, which is what we will call the foundation of the face and which is why we start working on this area when undergoing a facioplasty. We then focus on the contours. The facial contours comprise the temples, jaw and chin. These are responsible for maintaining the shape and balance of the face.

And lastly, we have the refinements. These refer to the upper part of the face (forehead, eyebrows and crow’s feet), as well as the area of the mouth (lips, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, barcode wrinkles).

It is of vital importance that we follow this order when conducting a facioplasty. As already mentioned, beautifying a face is very similar to building a house. Just like an architect does not start from the roof, we cannot treat a lip without having restored the facial structure beforehand, as this would lead to unnatural results.

The treatment usually involves 30-minute sessions that follow the treatment plan defined in the first consultation. It is carried out in consultation. It is a painless technique. A needle or microcannula is used.
