Hyperhidrosis:
Eliminate excessive sweating

Hyperhidrosis: eliminate excessive sweating in palms, soles and armpits

Hyperhidrosis is excessive sweating that is not necessarily related to heat or exercise. It can lead to incapacity in the workplace, by interrupting one’s normal activity, and disrupt social life, as excessive sweating can dampen our clothing and even drip, leading to embarrassing situations and social anxiety.

Hyperhidrosis is usually due to hyperactivity of the sweat glands from nerve hyperstimulation, and it affects 1% of the population. Half of the cases are hereditary and the other half are a consequence of situations that lead to emotional tension or stress, either due to thermal stimuli or the action of pharmacological substances.

Excessive sweating is corrected by superficially injecting small amounts of botulinum toxin in the area to be treated. Botulinum toxin blocks the brain signals locally sent to the sweat glands, so even if we feel nervous or hot, we will not sweat. If applied several times, the sweat gland will produce less sweat, so the effect can be increasingly longer lasting. This problem usually occurs in the palms, soles or armpits.

This sweat control technique is indicated for people whose excessive sweating becomes an inconvenience in their daily lives.

The effect lasts approximately one year. The treatment is usually repeated every year and takes about 20 minutes. Local anaesthesia is required, as it is particularly painful on the palms and soles.
