Botulinum toxin,<\/strong>\u00a0is a purified protein that is injected in small doses in the skin and the muscle underneath and that relaxes the muscle contraction responsible for the appearance of wrinkles, smoothing existing ones and avoiding the appearance of new expression lines.<\/p>

At first,\u00a0toxin\u00a0<\/span>was administered to remove completely all facial wrinkles, achieving an ironed, stretched face. In many cases, the results were rather unnatural. The objective nowadays is not to remove all facial wrinkles, but to smooth the expression and eliminate the appearance of accumulated tension.<\/strong><\/p>

Botulinum toxin has helped us expand our knowledge about facial anatomy and improve our way of working on the muscles of expression. It is mainly used to relax the expression lines on the upper third of the face (crow’s feet, glabella and forehead)<\/strong>, and when applied correctly, we obtain a rejuvenated face with a very natural result and without altering the expression. It can also be used in the middle and lower third of the face (neck, neckline, around the mouth, wrinkles, gummy smile, etc.), although results in these areas are more limited.<\/p>

You may have heard on many occasions that\u00a0<\/strong>toxin\u00a0<\/span>is a preventative instrument. Well, it is true. <\/strong> This treatment is aimed generally at patients between 30-40 years of age. It consists in injecting small doses to smooth the expressions of anger, sadness, stress and tiredness, among others, that many times are reflected on our face but do not match the emotions that we really want to transmit. As a result, we treat the expression lines, which appear when we gesture, as well as prevent the appearance of static wrinkles, which appear when in a resting state.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At Cl\u00ednica Iradia we use three brands: Vistabel, Azzalure and Bocouture<\/strong>. They all feature the same active molecule and are backed by studies with considerable scientific evidence in terms of safety and efficacy. We use one or the other according to the patient’s characteristics. <\/p>\n

The treatment involves injecting small doses with a very fine needle, so it is a painless treatment. Anaesthesia is not required. Following the treatment, we must avoid sweating in excess, using a helmet, going to spas or saunas and doing physical exercise in the first four to five hours.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The results will become visible after 48-72 hours, reaching its maximum effect approximately 15 days later.<\/strong> The patient must attend a review appointment 15 days after the treatment and inject further doses if required. Except for any additional injections that may be needed in the review appointment, we must avoid regularly reinjecting toxin<\/span>, as it may reduce the product’s effectiveness in future sessions. <\/p>\n

The effect lasts around four to six months, depending on the patient and musculature, and even longer if the treatment is continued.<\/p>\n
